Spanish foreing politic on Mr. Zapatero governments
Do you remember the last NATO summit of Bucharest? Well, in Spain there was a photo that showed one half of the strategy of Mr. ZP (Zapatero) governments. The picture showed Mr. Zapatero, sitting on is chair, playing or doing like he is playing with his mobile phone. On the other side of the picture, the real leaders of the world: Mr. Bush, Mr. Sarkozy, Mrs. Merkel, etc.
The forein politic of ZP during this four-years period was concentrated on two things. First, to show the Spanish people that he can reject Mr. Bush (as he did by his behaviour when the annual Parade of the Spanish Army by sitting down when the american flag was passing in front of him). But, on the other hand, trying to move the wires in order to have like a picture with Mr. Bush to show that the relationships between the two countries are normal. On the meantime, ZP played the fortune-teller, but having the jinx: he predicted the winning of Mrs. Royal on the French elections; he predicted the winning of Mr. Kelly on the American elections; he also predicted the winning of Mr. Schroeder; etc. This led Spanish foreign relationships to a dead end with some European leaders, and a real absurd with Mr. Bush.
The second thing was to move near the dictators. The approaches with leaders such as Mr. Chávez of Venezuela, Mr. Morales of Bolivia, Mr. Erdogan of Turkey, etc., are just clear, and evidenced the volte-face to totalitarisms. These are the real movements: leaders whom ZP shares some evidence of his internal politic, with things such as the scorn to the catholic heritage of Spain, the family as seen on the tradition, etc.
What is next? We will see more of the same. Now, ZP is still playing the fortune-teller predicting the winning of Obama, and going deeper on the same direction. The direction the Talking Heads described on one of their songs: the road to nowhere.
