The picture of the day

I am looking to the web sites of the digital newspapers, and seeing the same picture on all. The picture shows the Spanish president Mr. Zapatero with Juan José Cortés and Irene Suárez, the parents of Mari Luz, the girl murdered in Huelva for a pedophile man.

This murder is an example of the unefficiencies of the Spanish administration. Lost in a tangle of bureaucracy and entities, the assassin was condemned. But this sentence was not executed for laziness of for lack of professionalism, either of the judge or of the secretaty of the court. But the fact is that there was a chain of nonsenses. The public worker was not substituted by the Junta de Andalucía (the Andalusian Regional Administration); the judge forgot to execute the judgment. And there is a mistake after a mistake. The assassin was free, and looking for some girl to whom abuse.

Any consequencies for the wrong actions? None. The judge was defended immediately by the “Corporate” (that is, the association of judges and the CGPJ, the General Council of the Judicial Power, the organ which rules the judges and its actions); the Junta de Andalucía washed the hands on this matter. The police should know the place where this man was living, and they did not know.

Now, the parents gathered more than 500.000 signs to ask to the Spanish parliament to harden the sentences for those that commit this type of crime. And Mr. Zapatero has received them in the Moncloa Palace. All mien. All worry. All emptiness.

Will Mr. Zapatero do something to change the law to prevent this cases from happening again? The answer is no. Then, what is that much theater for? Just for a picture? Remember, Mr. Zapatero, what Mari Luz’s father told you on the phone… Do you have children? Two daughters?
